Dubai Import Toro Toro Opens at InterContinental

Toro Toro Opens at InterContinental

100 Chopin Plaza
Phone: (305) 372-4710

Ever wanted to experience a meal at a restaurant in Dubai? Well now you can. Sort of. For those of us who don't have Dubai as the next stop on our itinerary, one of their restaurants has come to us. The pan-Latin steakhouse Toro Toro opened its Miami outpost based on the original across the pond. James Beard-nominated chef Richard Sandoval is behind the restaurant, and he also has another Miami spot: Kokoriko Natural Rotisserie in Brickell. Toro Toro is located in the newly revamped InterContinental Miami in Downtown, an ideal spot for a place with origins in Dubai. The restaurant features a long, slithering bar which will likely become popular for happy hour and game watching, while the dining room is warm and elegant.

Sandoval's menu includes cold plates like smoked swordfish dip, hot plates like short rib arepas, and lunch items like burgers and sandwiches as well as entrees. Other larger plates like a 14oz Omaha ribeye, bacon-covered barbecue salmon, and pork belly burgers top off a very meaty menu in both offerings and size. If dining with a larger group, go "rodizio style" and get endless amounts of picanha steak, Angus ribeye, lamb chops, and sausage carved table-side (like Texas de Brazil but fancier). The libations are Latin-inspired for cocktails with liquors like tequila and pisco as the focus, along with a very global wine list of 100+ bottles. While Toro Toro will only be open for lunch and dinner, the hotel's breakfast-only restaurant.

Zuma flies in largest truffle worth Dhs52,000

Dubai’s uber-chic Japanese restaurant, Zuma, has sourced the largest truffle to be imported to the UAE with a weight of 349g, according to an article published in Hotelier Middle East. The Dhs52,350 truffle was brought in all the way from Alba in Northern Italy and will now be served in the restaurant’s dishes that feature the sought-after ingredient. Customers can also request that the truffle be shaved onto their meals — at Dhs150 per gram, with a minimum order of two grams.

There are more than 1000 species of truffle or ‘tubers’ that grow naturally in the soil. Of those about 16 species are edible and the fresh white truffle from Italy is considered the most valued. For around 95% of truffles found, the weight varies from 10 grams to maximum 100 grams. White truffle cannot be harvested or farmed and only grow in a selected areas of Italy — in the Piedmont region —and in some parts of Tuscany.
